Do You want to be a better conservationist this year?
As we leave 2021 and have started a brand new year, now is the perfect time to make a few resolutions to live a cleaner, healthier, more responsible life. Many people who live in California feel a profound connection to the earth and want to protect the environment. Our recent history of severe droughts has also taught us the value of conservation and using fewer of the world’s resources.
If your resolution this year is to lower your ecological footprint, there are many things you can do to make that happen, including:
- Purchasing locally grown food at farmer’s markets
- Carpooling
- Purchasing a hybrid or electric vehicle
- Planting your own garden
- Composting
- Recycle as much of your waste as possible
One piece of low hanging conservation fruit is to quit plastic water bottles. Ban the Bottle claims that Americans use, on average 167 plastic water bottles a year and only recycle 38. These bottles require a huge amount of oil and energy to create. Instead, keep hydrated with a reusable bottle and consider investing in an in-home water filtration system like Waterboy. We wish you luck on your resolutions this year!
